About Our Association |
The mission of the Vankleek Hill Fiddle and Dance Association is to promote the continuation of "old time fiddle music", "step dancing" and "old time square dancing" for all age groups from 8 years and under to 60 years and over. Our primary aim was to offer a competition in the immediate area for young children taking lessons in fiddle and dance. The purpose of our mission is to offer a quality and professional annual competition for these age groups. In addition, we offer a unique competition that encompasses the three venues of fiddle, step and square dance. This is the only competition of its kind in Eastern Ontario! The Vankleek Hill Fiddle and Dance Association was first created in 1996 as the Vankleek Hill Bicentennial-Centennial fiddle-step and square dance committee. This committee was part of the 200th birthday celebration of the Town of Vankleek Hill celebrated throughout the year of 1997. On December 31st, 1997, with the celebrations over, the BCC Committee was disbanded and in 1998, the Vankleek Hill Fiddle and Dance Association adopted its present name and executive positions, to reflect and control the activities of the Association. |
