GENERAL POLICE EDUCATION

Police Ethics Police Ethics
The session will provide the Explorer with a basic set of ethical issues, as found primarily in the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, for his consideration and adoption.
Explorers will be sensitized to various issues in the law enforcement community.

 

Police Careers and Education Police Careers and Education Programs
Explorers will be presented with the career options available in federal, military, provincial, city and specialized law enforcement agencies. Entry requirements, salaries, and duties will be discussed. Various educational programs available in the area will be discussed, including colleges, four year colleges and universities.

For this purpose, lectures may be given by members of the Ontario Provincial Police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the O.C.R.P.S., the Canadian Armed Forces Military Police, etc.

 

Introduction to Canadian Law Introduction to Canadian Law
This orientation will give the Explorer a basic understanding in Canadian laws, provincial statutes and municipal by-laws.

 

Role of Police & Society Role of Police & Society
The session will focus on the psychological impact on society of the police response in various situations.
Explorers will learn that police officers have a public image, and that all actions made by police affects the said image and reputation of a police service.


Crime Prevention & Community-Based Policing Crime Prevention & Community-Based Policing
Explorers may be lectured on and involved in different crime prevention programs such as : Neighborhood Watch, CrimeStoppers, etc.
Explorers will participate in activities representing the police service within the community.

 

Ontario Traffic Act Ontario Highway Traffic Act
The Explorers will be familiarized with the elements of the motor vehicle laws, including the major traffic offences.

 

Ontario Provincial Police History of the O.P.P. and Policing
The Explorers will be familiarized with the O.P.P. history and the history of policing in general.

 

GENERAL POLICE OPERATIONS

Detective / Criminal Investigation

Detective / Criminal Investigation
Explorers may be sensitized on how a general crime is investigated. The Explorers will also learn the responsibilities of a member on the Crime Unit.

 

Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation

Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation
This session will provide the Explorer with knowledge on how a motor vehicle collision is investigated.

 

Traffic Stop Orientation

Traffic Stop Orientation
The Explorer may be presented on some techniques that are utilized in the performance of a traffic stop and some of the laws and policies regarding traffic stops.

 

Patrol Techniques

Patrol Techniques
The Explorer may be presented patrolling techniques and officer safety issues.

 

Police Communications

Police Communications
The Explorer will familiarize himself with the 10 codes used by police and other issues on police communications. The Explorer may also visit a police communications center.

Use of Force Orientation

Use of Force Orientation
The Explorer may be presented with the use of force response model and may be presented with some defensive tactics activities.

Training - Use of Force

Drill

Drill
To promote the 'Esprit de Corps', the Explorer will be initiated with some basic drill techniques where he will have the opportunity to perform drill in public.

 

Physical Fitness

Physical Fitness
The Explorer will be familiarized with the hiring physical test (PREP test) and will have a chance to perform a physical test in order to obtain the Explorer Physical Fitness Award.


SUPPORT SERVICES

Fire Services Orientation Fire Services Orientation
The Explorers may be familiarized with a Fire Fighter's work.
The Explorers may visit a Fire Hall.
The Explorers may participate in activities that are related to Fire Fighting.

Training - Fire and Emergency

Ambulance Services Orientation Ambulance Services Orientation
The Explorers may be familiarized with a Paramedic's work
The Explorers may visit an Ambulance Service
The Explorers may participate in activities that are related to ambulance services.

 

First Aid Training / C.P.R. First Aid Training / C.P.R.
This component may result in the Explorers earning their Standard First Aid Certification from either the Canadian Red Cross or St-John's Ambulance. Normally, instruction would be provided by the certifying agency. This certification will enable the Explorer in obtaining the Explorer Emergency Preparedness Award.

 

Correctional Services Correctional Services
The Explorers may be familiarized with a correctional officer's work
The Explorers may visit a correctional facility.

 

Court System Court System
The Explorer may be exposed to the court system and the way it operates.
