PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The Program is somewhat structured like a police department. It has ranks and a chain of command in order to function effectively.

The program is supported by the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Ontario Provincial Police

Members shall also recognize and respect lawful orders that are given by advisors to the program which includes: Senior members, Veteran members, School Liaison Officer, Police officers or civilian member of the O.P.P..

The Hawkesbury Police Explorer are supervised and coordinated by a Director, Deputy-Director and a Staff-Sergeant.  The Explorers are under the supervision of their respective Sergeant. The sergeants are assisted by Corporals and Corporal-Second-Class who take their place in their absence.

EXPLORER SUPPORT UNIT

Members who have retired from the program shall be deemed an Explorer for life.  Such members shall have the opportunity to help the Explorer program in it’s daily operations whenever they are needed or available.  E.S.U. members shall be recognized in the chain of command at the rank they last held before leaving the program up to the rank of Sergeant.  For operation purposes, if, for example, a E.S.U. Sergeant assists at a function and there is an active Sergeant on duty, the active Sergeant will obviously have authority over the platoon.  For example, a E.S.U. Sergeant would have authority over an Active Corporal.  E.S.U. members shall wear a prescribed uniform to identify themselves as veteran Explorers.  Identification may be in the form of a tag, an ID card or any clothing with the proper identification.

RESERVE UNIT

Applicants who have met the basic requirements but have failed to enter the program may have the opportunity to become a part of the Explorer Reserve Unit.

The member shall be called upon whenever extra Explorers are needed.

A Reserve member shall observe and obey the same rules and regulations as a regular Explorer and be under the same conditions.

A Reserve member may have priority over non-members for obtaining open positions within the regular Explorer program.

During Explorer activities, Reserve members are provided with proper identification identifying them as Reserve Explorers.
