Process at a Glance
The aspiring member has to go through steps similar to any hiring process when applying
for employment.
The ones not hired still get some positive experience in learning how to go through a
hiring process.
Application
Prospective members must complete an application form available at the Hawkesbury
Detachment or by clicking on the appropriate link at the bottom of this page.
Conditions
A prospective member must comply with all of the following criteria:
| 14-17 years of age (hiring age, members may continue to age 21); | |
| Full time student having his 12th grade, or on the way to receiving his diploma while keeping an average of 60%; | |
| No criminal record; | |
| Resident of the Hawkesbury region; | |
| Member of good standing in the community; | |
| Able to communicate in French and in English |
Note: Aspiring members should be available to come to the regular meetings that
are usually held every last Wednesdays of the month. Plus they should be available to
partake in other meetings, activities and outings during the year.
Attendance at Regular Explorer
meetings is mandatory. The only excuses that shall be tolerated for missing a meeting are:

After missing five (5) consecutive
meetings and/or activities for inappropriate reasons, the member may be dismissed from the
program.
Steps
For recruitment, aspiring members must follow these steps:

Point system
Perspective members shall be selected on a merit point system. Points shall be awarded
upon the successful completion of each phase.
Automatic dismissal during selection process
If a perspective member fails to meet any one of the basic requirements, or is found to be
fraudulent in meeting the basic requirements, the prospective member shall automatically
be dismissed from the selection process, regardless of points accumulated or current
standing in the selection process.
Probationary period
Every new member shall undergo a probationary period of 6 months. The said period may be
prolonged at the Staff-Sergeant's , Deputy-Director's or Director's discretion if
situation needed. During such probationary period, members may be terminated if any basic
requirements, performance level or behaviour is deemed not satisfactory.
Unsuccessful competition
Any recruit who does not comply with the basic requirements of the Explorer program will
be notified by means of a letter addressed to the recruit explaining to him why his
application was revoked. The member may be invited onto the Reserve Unit at the Program
Director's discretion.
Inscription fee
All members shall pay a one-time initiation fee of $50.00 upon acceptance in the Explorer
program. This will entitle the member to be a lifetime member. This inscription fee will
cover certain uniform expenses, training, travelling and activity expenses.
A $25.00 deposit for the uniform will
also be required. It will be returned to member upon her/his departure.
Cheques can be made to the order of Hawkesbury Police Explorers Inc.
School performance
Every member who is attending school shall submit a true copy of all school report cards
received during the school year. The average grade shall be of at least 60%. Members not
maintaining this minimum may be subject to a probationary period.

Aspiring members should make sure that they complete the Application form completely to
the best of their knowledge. Please proof read application before mailing it. Also include
your school evaluation report and your Criminal Records verification (free of charge for
volunteers).

application a copy of their last two report cards. Do not send originals.
