The Hawkesbury Police Explorers hosted a
Can-Am reunion in the summer of 2006.
The Wilcox Memorial Post #7
Explorers from
Erie Pennsylvania came to visit the Hawkesbury area
and to learn about policing in Canada.
Both Explorer posts had physical and learning
activities throughout the week.
Take a look at the busy

DAY 1
The Erie Explorers arrived in
Hawkesbury in late afternoon.
They were treated to a
welcoming BBQ by Cst Dubois and
the Hawkesbury Police Explorers. That is when both posts
got to meet for the first time. The match was successful as
both Explorer posts bonded right away.
DAY 2
The second day of the reunion was the first
full day of activities. The Explorers started the day at the Hawkesbury OPP Detachment
where they received an orientation of the police station and a summary of what the OPP is
all about.
The Explorers then headed to the Firehall to
meet Captain Yves Berniquez and Communications Officer Jérémie Bourgeoys. They
were shown a tour of the nice firehall and then were able to get some hands on experience
with a firehose.
The Explorers then went to the Town Hall after
lunch to meet with Mayor Jacques Hétu.
They also met Police Board Member and ex-Mayor Lucien Berniquez.
The Explorers were invited in
signing the Gold Book of the town.
The Explorers then went to visit the one of
the oldest prison used in the history of Canada.
The jail is not in use anymore. Explorers were shown where the last hanging was held
and they had the chance to sit down at a hearing and then get good advice from the Crown
Attorney Ronald Laliberté, Defence Attorney Ian McKechnie and Judge Réginald Lévesque.
The trio really left a positive impression on all who attended the discussion
after the hearing. A special thanks to Lynne Dicaire, Supervisor of the Court Services who
organized the visit.

After the very hectic day, the Explorers had
the Club 352 Gym available for the Explorers. A few of the Explorers attended for a
workout. This was possible because of the good will of the Club 352 who gave a free
pass to all who attended. For more information on the Gym here is a link to their
website: http://club352.ca/Components%20Eng/index.html
