This just in, HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray, maybe, kinda, probably over
So Blu-Ray is the Winner! HD-DVD is the Looser! So says everybody right now. Me? Don't really care either way. Why? You'd think I'd be upset, buying a HD-DVD player (the XBOX 360 add-on) and now having a large stack of 11 HD-DVD. But I'm not, and I'll tell you why.
Going into this format war, I only had one goal. Bleed'em dry. Both of them if I could. It just turned out that HD-DVD was the more cost effective solution.
I always marvel at the fanboyish camps, hurling insults at each other about which is better, which is winning, like anybody gives a crap. I'm in the "I hate both formats" camp. Why? Because there never should have been two formats. But nooooooo. Both sides were so bloody greedy, they had to make a format of their own! That turned out to be the basically same thing. So my goal was to see how much money they were willing to loose on me, and essentially, try to bankrupt them.
Now while I've have 11 HD-DVD's, I've only payed for 3. Yes. 3. That's 8 for free. Combine that with the ability for the 360 drive to connect to my computer means, say it with me boys and girls, format free. If HD-DVD goes the way of the Betamax, a simple rip to the hard drive, little compression here and presto. High quality movies not saddled to any disk, drive or format. So when/if the HD-DVD goes down in flames, watch for me, picking up the pieces at low, low prices.
Suckers.
